In what reality do the people who think we are going anywhere under these two clowns live in?
They have been here 7 years and it would have happened by now if it was ever going to.

Plums on here living off 7th place and Payet still. The clueless spivs wouldn't even have signed him had the fee been closer to 20m. We screwed a desperate Marseille over to get him.

The best thing they can do now if they really cared about the club and had any integrity at all, is admit they don't have what it takes to fulfil their bullshit and sell up ASAP to someone who can.

Must admit that things just feel like they are slowly getting worse.

The move was totally the wrong thing to do based on where we are now.

But it is only the start of the second season. We need to see some real progress in the next 2 or 3 seasons or many will call it a day and make way for the tourist fans.

CR ...exactly my point. Thought the move was to make us move up a notch at least !!!

dont get me wrong, if we sign at least 2 decent strikers I will accept I was wrong. I just hope I am.

Re: Can't help feeling we've been...
Snodgrass cost under £10mil, he has and will never be in the class of Payet. If those in charge genuinely see him as the Payet replacement then we are in big trouble next season. We need quality over quantity, and we need to start building for the future, despite the old school businessmen in charge thinking only for the here and now. They completely done us on the stadium move, they now need to actually spend some money and try to compete with the top 4. Currently we are looking more likely to be outspent by Crystal Palace & Bournemouth than we are rivalling any of last seasons top 7. If at the end of the transfer window Bournemouth have a larger net outplay than us, that will say more than enough about our owners - what is their ground capacity again? Upton Park was three times the size, our current rented all purpose arena almost 6 times bigger...

Football is very easy, firstly employ a tactically aware, good man manager. Secondly, trust the manager to find a formation that works for the squad. Thirdly ensure that we have a squad of 20 decent players, with at least 4 - 5 top players in the starting 11.

Once you have this squad of 20 in place (see season 2015/16), in every following transfer window sign at least 1 player who will improve the weakest positions and at the end of each season look to promote a youth to the 19th & 20th squad positions. From squad number 20-25, players should always be under 20.

Also, before actually employing the manager, surely it would make sense to find out the system he plans to play, speak to the coaching staff and judge whether it will work without a huge outlay on new players. Once a system has been decided, that should be it for at least a 5 year period, with reviews every 6 months or in emergency in the case of freak events like the 3-4-3 Conte formation shift of this past season.

The club needs consistency and a long term plan. Signing 29+ year olds in the hope of coming somewhere between 8th - 17th is not going to work. Obviously the owners are treading water in expectation of the huge offer they expect to come within the next decade. However, there are cheaper, more attractive opportunities in the Championship and League 1 these days.

David Sullivan needs to put his money where is mouth is and turn us into a genuine top 8 team, not just a potential challenger. They missed a massive opportunity in January 2016, if they'd bought a £25mi+ striker we would have got the extra couple of wins and qualified for the Champions League.

I honestly have no faith or trust in the owners anymore. Bilic also isn't doing himself any favours with his ridiculous/stubborn tactical decisions and his blatant self preservation decisions to only use experience rather than blooding any potential prospects.

We're at a strange point in our history. We've lost a large part of our identity, a lot of the old guard who saw the creation of the West Ham Way are walking away. The fight, urgency and importance of the club to the hardcore fanbase is beginning to ebb away. I honestly have no idea where we are heading, the only thing that can bring us all together is success - but can the owners & management provide the platform?

Re: Can't help feeling we've been...
Relax. Even though this looks exactly the same as last season and we have been linked with and have missed out on numerous players and we're already down to our 36th striker choice and the only player we have signed is fucking ancient and past it and the ones we're linked are also ancient and past it and we still have a terrible manager and the club are already drip feeding the excuses on why we wont sign anyone of note, it's ok because:

It's only June. So apparently it's all ok.

Re: Can't help feeling we've been...
The problem with Sullivan's claims about us challenging for the top 4, is that he thought that a 2012 transfer budget for a top 4 club would be sufficient to make us challengers in 2017. The transfer market has moved beyond recognition over the last 6 years - Man City were spending £30m on Robinho and it was a signing that made waves around the world. Utd signed Tevez for £30m, Liverpool signed Torres for £25m - these were the types of fees that only the top clubs could afford.

G&S took over West Ham, and thought that if they could build us into a club that afford to spend £25m on a player then we'd be able to compete with the big boys. What they didn't factor in was that the rest of the league can afford to spend £25m on a player now, and the top clubs are spending £75/£100m

As a lot of other posters have said, were a million miles off anything like competing with the big boys. Maybe in 5 years time we'd be able to pay £75m for someone, but by then City will be spending £200m!

Re: Can't help feeling we've been...
I've welcomed the period of silence from Mr Sullivan
When he does finally speak, hopefully to announce a few quality signings, he should probably apologise for all the nonsense about challenging for the top 4.
We are a million miles away and those teams are moving away at a rate of knots. Chelsea are just about to spend £60m on a left back and the others are looking at offering £100m for players like Mbappa.

Re: Can't help feeling we've been...
There are some that will say its early and to be patient. But many of us feel we were mugged off and indeed "led down the garden path" ? Its season 2 since the move and the promise of better times..

We still do not have a decent, fit striker.
We still have a slow team and midfield that cannot get or retain possession.
We lost our one noteworthy international player.
We scraped into mid table after flirting hard with relegation.
We launch a new transfer strategy of buying over priced, no resale value, over 30 players to continue to fill the squad with players with no resale value.

We increase revenues materially but apparently are still as in debt as we ever were.

Happy days, onwards and upwards with the 2Bobs.

CR 11:45 Tue Jun 27
Re: Can't help feeling we've been...
It's not about Champions League, a new level for us would be a few seasons not worrying about relegation. If we do get into Europe, not treating it like it's a disaster to be avoided at all cost. Treating a cup run as something to be persued not something to get out as soon as possible. It's about, having sold Payet, not buying Snodgrass as some sort of replacement. I don't think that's unreasonable short term demands for a club of our size, considering the hype
surrounding the move.

terry-h 11:42 Tue Jun 27
Re: Can't help feeling we've been...
There are two strikers we could probably get for around 23 mill, permanent signings,no fucking complications. I've mentioned these two before, but the response was 'not good enough'. Not top drawer, but much better than having the two sick notes that drag this club down.

But all we get from the midget porn distributors is fucking shit.

I feel sorry for Bilic now having a couple of owners that treat an honest professional( not the greatest manager, but at least he loves the club like us) with a total lack of respect.

Supporting West Ham is really beginning to annoy me intensely with these two fuckers in charge.

Nightingale hammer 11:33 Tue Jun 27
Re: Can't help feeling we've been...
If the big boys want someone that bad they would bid a decent amount. Maybe if we done the same we would actually get the players we wanted. I know we're not the richest club in the land but we should be going for it if we are to 'compete'....otherwise, stay at UP and be happy with a season between 8th and 16th
